How We Support You
Woking Family Contact Centre offers supported contact. It is suitable for families where no significant risk has been identified to either the child/children or the parents.
The Centre is open on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays (but not the 5th Saturday) in the month from 2 pm to 4 pm. Although there is no charge, families can make a donation to the Centre if they so wish. The suggested donation is £20 on the first visit only.
We accept referrals directly from parents and also from solicitors, family courts, social workers and probation officers. Please visit the Referrals page of this website.
Each parent is asked to attend a separate pre-visit meeting at the Centre. These meetings are arranged at different times. During the pre-visit meetings, we will explain our way of working and complete a pre-visit checklist. We want both parents to understand what we expect of them, and what they can expect from us in return.
The resident parent is welcome to bring his/her child(ren) to this meeting so that they can see the Centre for themselves. After these two meetings, we will complete a basic risk assessment because we want to be confident that the new family, as well as other families and volunteers attending our Centre, will feel safe during our sessions.
The Centre’s Co-ordinator or administrator will contact both parents to let them know whether or not we are able to offer them a place and confirm the starting date, if applicable. (Please note that sometimes we do have a waiting list.)
Facilities
The Centre provides a neutral and safe venue for contact between a child and a visiting parent. There is a large sitting and communal play area.
There are separate entrances for resident and visiting parents. Parents do not therefore need to meet. There is a separate waiting lounge.
NACC Accreditation
The Centre has been active since 1997 and was re-accredited in September 2023 for a further 3 years to 2026.
Charitable Status and Donations
Woking Family Contact Centre is an unregistered charity which is operated by Trustees and other Volunteers under the standard NACCC model constitution. It has been recognised as a charity for tax purposes by HM Revenue & Customs.
You can make a donation now by filling out the donation form which also includes a Gift Aid Declaration, or you can make an online donation through Give as you Live using the button below, which has an option to include Gift Aid if you are a UK tax payer.
